Peppermint and bloating? Both can be treated in the same manner – through the application of peppermint essential oils. Peppermint tea, when taken as tea, can help fight infection by relieving the body of toxins that cause bloating, while also soothing inflammation in the stomach. Peppermint has been proven to be effective against viruses that can cause flu symptoms and flu-like symptoms, such as headaches, fever, chills, and sore throat.

Peppermint tea also provides numerous benefits for individuals with poor digestion. Peppermint assists in the digestion process because it contains ingredients that help break down fats faster in the stomach. By reducing fat break down in the stomach, it allows for more efficient digestion, resulting in less discomfort and a much easier time eliminating toxins from the body. As with bloating and indigestion, these benefits have been scientifically proven through studies involving peppermint and digestion.

One study, conducted at the University of Reading, appears to indicate that peppermint extract may also help treat bad breath. In this study, participants drank an herbal tea that contained 30 milligrams of peppermint oil twice daily for four weeks. Of those participants, 15 had bad breath, which the researchers determined from the results of a throatwash and a test on the users’ saliva samples. While this is not a peer-reviewed study, the preliminary data supports the claim that peppermint oil may help treat this common problem.

Peppermint has also been shown to be beneficial in treating stomach ulcers. One study, conducted at the University of Nottingham, indicates that peppermint apparently reduces the stomach’s production of gastric acid in response to gastric juice. The reduction of gastric acid was found to be associated with a significant reduction in ulcer incidence. This supports the theory that stomach ulcers are caused, at least in part, by an insufficient level of gastric acid. Peppermint may promote digestion, thereby reducing the incidence of ulcers.

Though these are only some of the health benefits of peppermint tea, the powerful botanical compounds within the peppermint plant seem to have some amazing healing effects, as demonstrated by recent clinical trials. These herbal treatments can be taken to promote overall health and wellness. Peppermint oils are particularly effective against both bacterial and viral infections, as well as respiratory and digestive disorders.
