Being happy with your heart is one of the most important things that you can do for your health. Your heart is pumping blood through your body and to every organ and tissue in it, giving nourishment and oxygen to every cell, tissue, organ, and system. A heart healthy lifestyle will keep your heart pumping efficiently and keep it working properly so you won’t have to worry about high cholesterol and triglycerides. And along with living a heart healthy lifestyle is exercise – any exercise – but including heart healthy exercise that doesn’t put strain on your heart.

Cardiovascular exercise is any activity that raises your heart rate and helps you to lose weight, build muscle, improve your stamina, or helps you to overcome stress. There are many different forms of cardiovascular exercise. You don’t need to be a marathon runner to exercise, although running is an excellent way to exercise and to burn off excess calories. Light aerobic exercise is enough to keep you heart healthy and to get you started toward a heart healthy lifestyle. The most important thing is to start an exercise program immediately.

Any exercise program starts slowly and gradually builds up over time. Some people start with a thirty minute walk around the block every day, while other people start with twenty minutes walking as their first exercise program. The key to building up to longer and more intensive exercise programs is to be consistent. If you are new to heart healthy lifestyle, start with something easy and short so you can build your endurance and your tolerance to the exercise program before you build up to longer and more rigorous exercise. It is always better to start a little bit slowly than to try to overdo it.

If you are already using a heart healthy lifestyle, you probably realize that you need to watch your cholesterol and triglycerides if you want to keep your heart healthy. While these are always important to keep, they are not the only factors that contribute to heart disease and stroke. Good nutrition is also important if you want to be successful in your efforts to keep your heart healthy. You should eat foods that are high in antioxidants like fruits and vegetables. Foods that are high in Omega – 3 fatty acids are especially important if you are going to be an active person. These acids can improve heart health by decreasing plaque buildup in arteries, reducing blood pressure, and lowering cholesterol.

The most important element of an effective heart healthy lifestyle program is to get regular cardiovascular exercise. This should be done at least three times a week with at least thirty minutes in a fast paced interval type session. This type of exercise program can really help you to burn more calories and lose weight, two of the biggest contributors to heart disease. When you combine this type of exercise program with a sensible diet, your chances of heart disease and stroke dramatically reduce.

The most important part of creating a heart healthy lifestyle is to set realistic goals for yourself. Don’t worry if you aren’t moving forward quickly. It’s important that you never give up or be frustrated if you seem to fall behind schedule. It’s important to remain persistent because being persistent is one of the best ways to succeed when it comes to beating heart disease. If you want to beat heart disease, you have to have the right mindset and the proper tools.
